I was listening to the theme song for Cops last night and realised that there are a couple of words in actual reptilian:

Nobody naw give you no break

Not even you idren naw give you no break
Hehe (or hey hey)

Strangely, I’d heard the words ‘idren naw’ a million times and never cared enough to google it. This is like not caring enough about a nail in the eyeball to visit the emergency room. I mean, Idren naw!

I found this exact question addressed on a website that answers questions. A couple of people think that in reggae it means ‘children’ which seems reasonable enough. Another guy thinks it means ‘brethren’, or ‘good friends’.

I prefer to think Bob Marley made it up to piss everyone off, which makes perfect sense given the predilection of Rastafarians towards trickery and disinformation.
