The background to the story is that John is in Salt Lake City pitching his film idea, Xtreme Mormons, to Mormon producers by showing them this trailer. He plays it straight the whole time, and so the producers really have no choice but to treat the trailer as a serious pitch. Kudos to Stin Hausen, the female producer, who has bigger balls of skepticism than the others but is still sweet about it:

Just about every line in the trailer made me piss myself:

• ‘The prophet Lehi made it all the way from Jerusalem to America, surely we can make it to Sin City.’
• ‘How can you spread the Lord’s Word when you’re standing on the darn handlebars?’
• ‘I can’t see why what we’re doing is wrong. Drinking coffee is wrong, drinking cola is wrong. What’s wrong with extreme cycling.’
• ‘There’s two types of Mormons, Latter Day Saints, and Latter Day Aints.’ (My personal favourite)
• ‘This is about the book of Mormon, it’s not about monos and wheelies.’
• ‘If we can beat your best guy down Death Mountain, then you’ll all come to bible class, for a month.’
• ‘They’re fast, they’re furious, and they’re looking for souls. They’re XTREME MORMONS.’
